Congratulations Mount Airy!

Congratulations to our clients and friends in Mount Airy for winning the People's Choice Best Main Street in North Carolina Contest.

The contest was part of the "Great Places in North Carolina" initiative sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association to celebrate great communities throughout the state. The award was announced earlier this week.

All of the main streets recognized are walkable, interesting, and alive. They are places where residents and visitors come together for special events, and also central gathering places in the everyday life of their community. Through this program, we celebrate their vitality and the local partnerships that have made them a focal point for community life.

Our 2012 Great Places in North Carolina include:

• In the Mountains: Asheville’s Lexington Avenue.
• In the Piedmont: Charlotte’s Tryon Street and Hillsborough’s Churton Street.
• In the Coastal Plain: Edenton’s Broad Street.
• Great Place in the Making: Gastonia’s Main Avenue.
• People’s Choice: Mount Airy’s Main Street.
• People’s Choice Runner-up: Southport’s Howe and Moore Streets
