The 2012 Burke Reads program begins Sept 30th and runs through Nov. 3. Burke Reads is a month-long series of programs sponsored by Library Foundation of Burke County, NCSD, Burke County Public Schools, Morganton Day School, WPCC, Burke County Literacy Council and the Burke County Public Library System. Program focuses on a book and then creates a series of events --- movies, talks, presentations, plays and more --- with themes that are pulled from the book.
This year the book is The Great Gatsby, by F Scott Fitzgerald. And one of the themes in the book is the American Dream. There will be movies on the Library lawn, croquet, panel discussions, reading groups and more. Every participant gets a free copy of the The Great Gatsby.
